Forensic Mapping
Winter 2009
South Texas
This project required us to map 750 ft of four-lane highway including signage and a power pole that was struck during a traffic fatality. The accident was thought to be caused by either faulty tires or hydroplaning due to improper drainage of the road surface. Our job was to create a detailed contour maps of the road surface for review. We then worked with a forensic meteorologist and an accident reconstructionist in order to determine the amount and location of any standing water on the roadway during the night in question. The evidence provided allowed for an out of court settlement and the withdrawal of the suit against our client.
